SOS App Quick Tips: Transportation
The South of Seoul app is more than pretty pictures of food and fun things to do put together by some very dedicated volunteers. It is also embedded tons of information “easter eggs” that will make your life in Korea much easier. For example, our Transportation Hubs directories can be a huge help when you need them most. Need to know what is the closest bus terminal to you? We can help with that. Looking for a bus schedule? We can help with that. Wondering which station the SRT leaves from? We…

Songtan & Seojeongri Recommendation: Y Dental
Business: Y Dental Neighborhood: Songtan In the South of Seoul App search: Y Dental Sometimes we randomly get contacted by a business that finds us online. We don’t always go check them out because we have jobs and lives to live, however, if the business seems to might offer something that our local community needs we go check them out. Since those of us that run and volunteer at South of Seoul do it for the community, karma, to battle boredom, and to keep our job skills relevant it takes…

May Camp Reflection & June SIGNUP!
Our first 5th and 6th-grade summer just took place last week at the Moobongsan Camp in northeastern Pyeongtaek. It was a smashing success. We started working with the Pyeongtaek Youth Center last year to make these camps a reality and they have done smashingly. In 2017 we did two camps: one grade school and one middle school. This year we are doing four camps: two 5th and 6th grade and two middle school camps. All of them are overnight camps a Moobangsan camp facility and then a day near or on…

Goodbye to an SOS ROK Star: Sara
A year ago when Sig Flips the Table convinced me that SOS needed to grow and take on volunteers, Sara immediately came forward and stepped up to handle the tedious task of organizing a Pyeongtaek calendar. Honestly, you have no idea how complicated this is. Most information we find has no location, sometimes to clear times, and other times it’s simply wrong – plus most of it needs translated from Korean. The amount of effort it takes to find, clarify, simplify, and notify is shocking. Yet Sara never gave up.…

University Life Update
When we started at Namseoul University this spring we truly had no idea what to expect. It’s a new program and we didn’t know anyone who had attended before so we had a million questions: What exactly would studying in Korea in an English language program look like? What kind of professors would there be? Were we going to be cramming for exams like we see them doing in Korean high school? What are the students going to be like? How big were the classes going to be? What would…

Nav Apps: Options, Strengths, and Failures
Tell me if this is you… You just arrived in Korea, you are so stoked to start your adventure. You are all sassy like, “Hey, let’s open Google and see what’s up”! You pop open your handy smart phone and start searching for things you love! You search and search and search… but nothing is coming up.
