It’s a country that loves a good walk outside. Thousands of marked and unmarked hiking trails exist across the country. You can find many marked trails in Naver Maps which includes hiking routes in the maps app. Also, in South Korea, they consider walking trails and hiking trails. Sometimes you might find a Korean hike to simply be…

Awesome Blossoms: Cherry Blossom Info for Pyeongtaek
Updated: 2021 Cherry Blossom season is coming up and it is a beautiful and iconic time in Korea. There were festivals from the top to bottom and left to right of the country prior to the pandemic. We felt the pressure to race around the country to find the best festival with the best events. All of these festivals were awesome and PACKED! However, it’s not the festivals that make Cherry Blossoms time amazing. The blossoms themselves are the show stopper. Don’t feel too sad about the festivals being called off…

One Heart Spring Fest 2017 – Stitch & Bitch
This weekend we are going to be at the One Heart Spring Fest in Anjeongri. It turns out that this festival is actually like two festivals in one. The Spring Fest is put on by the US Military and it happens on the US Military Base (see information below to see what you need to access this section of the festival). The One Heart Fest is organized by the City of Pyeongtaek and PIEF. Camp Humphreys Spring Fest 12 – 6pm Inside the Gate -Saturday, May 20: SpringFest 2017 from…

PIEF: Traditional School Celebration
Finding a sense of community is one of the most important parts of feeling at home. In our home countries we know how to do that based on habits and cultural rules. We have the usual places we go and the usual things we do. As we move around from town to town we can usually recreate these experiences since we all share a culture and a language. However, when we move abroad all this changes. It becomes harder to find those centralized experiences that bring us together with others.…

October 29th Fall MATO Festival In Front of Camp Humphreys
Here is what you need to be doing tomorrow, Saturday October 29th, the MATO Festival. Trust me, it’s pretty darn delightful. It’s good, old-fashioned classic fun. Think small town festival with the simple delights of childhood. It’s heart warming. Even though I had seen the posters and such, I didn’t actually go one until this summer. Now I’m sad I missed all the others. Also, I didn’t even go on purpose. I was coming back from Costco and stopped off to grab a bite to eat only to discover a big…

연암공원 Suwon Park
During a recent bike ride around Suwon, we most likely broke many rules, despite the fact we were making our best effort to go by them. So I’m going to begin this recommendation by stating, I don’t know if we were supposed to be riding our bikes here. We had avoided going a few places that specifically said no bikes, but the trails we used to access this park didn’t have signs that we noticed. We aren’t saying they weren’t there, we just didn’t notice them. Dogs Allowed Even though…

Suwon Lake
Whenever I can be near water or in water I am. It’s always been a big part of my life. In order to get more of it, this last weekend we decided to go checkout one of Suwon’s lakes in the middle of the city. We rented old bikes from the near the palace and road them through the city, along the river, through a park, and down to the waters edge. It was quite the adventure and took about an hour since it was our first trip and we…

상투방 Hike Near Yeonginsan Natural Forest
Next to/Around the ever so fancy Yeonginsan Natural Forest are plenty of hiking trails and views. This one, on the edge of the park has trail access from inside the park and outside so it can either be an all day event or a 30 minute, hearty hike. Just depends on what you are looking for. The trails aren’t easily routed on Naver, but the long hike begins in the lower parking lot below Yeonginsan Natural Forest. There is a trail that follows the road and another that…

Yeonginsan Natural Forest
Located about 30 minutes from Pyeongtaek is a gorgeous forest and mountain hiking area that isn’t overrun by people every moment of the year (but I’m sure it happens). The name is Yeonginsan Natural Forest and it’s one of the best places South of Seoul to go and get away from it all because it’s NOT on a subway stop. This gorgeous park can be a hard day of hiking (if you park at the lower free parking lot) or an easy day out with the kids on smooth paths…
