3 New Year(s) Options in Pyeongtaek

    December 27, 2018 /

Just like Christmas and all the other holidays, New Years is celebrated a little differently in Pyeongtaek than what you might be used to. Whereas you might stay up until midnight to celebrate the New Year, in South Korea it’s all about waking up early (or staying up all night) and welcoming in the sunrise on the first day of the year. 1. Pyeongtaek Lake Sunrise Celebration (2019 평택호 해맞이 행사) If you would like to join a local cultural experience that isn’t promoted to foreigners at all, this is…

    Neighborhood Intro: Pyeongtaek City

    August 31, 2018 /

Pyeongtaek (평택) is made up of many different, unique little neighborhoods. Over the last 2 years Pyeongtaek neighborhoods have been reorganized, a new address system created, and – often – completely new names assigned. Combine this with the constantly changing English Speaking population that rotates through each year, and life becomes like a big game of Telephone as half information turns into mythical information. That’s where South of Seoul comes in. We are on the ground and updating the South of Seoul app each time we are alerted to a…

    Dr Yoo Chinese Take Out

    September 9, 2016 /

When Dr Yoo’s Korean restaurant announced they were offering Chinese take-out I wasn’t very inspired to try it. Just being honest. When restaurants decide the are going to offer something completely different than what they do in order to meet market demand, it’s usually a complete train wreck I don’t want to get involved in.  Plus, Chinese food in Korea is often the worst. However, after a while, the word on the street was solid enough I decided to go give it a try. Peer pressure totally works on me.…
