    3 Best Budaejjigae Restaurants

    November 16, 2015 /

If you enjoy spicy, garlic-y, comfort food this is your jam. Budaejjigae (부대찌개), often translated into Soldier Stew, is a spicy meat stew originally made from base scraps during the Korean War. It is now a very popular, hearty meal very popular on cold or rainy days. In our house, it’s a huge favorite and we have tried it across Korea. In the five years that we have searched for the perfect Budaejjigae, we have never found anything better than these three versions in Songtan.  Our top three choices are…

    숯고개부대찌개: Budae Jjigae

    October 30, 2015 /

In our lives, when it’s rainy or cold, there are two things we eat: Budae Jjigae and Kimchi jjigae. Thankfully, Songtan is one of the best places ever for Budae Jjigae / 부대찌개 (also known as soldier stew) since it’s where it all started. We have eaten this dish everywhere we go, but one of our all-time favorite places (maybe our favorite ever) is at the end of the shopping street in front of Osan Air Force Base.  It’s on the left and you will miss it if you blink.…

    Philadelphia Hoagies

    October 29, 2015 /

Pyeongtaek Restaurants That we love Where to Go: Philadelphia Hoagies in Songtan  No weirdness, just real Philly Hoagies on homemade bread. We loved the beef pastrami, cheese steak, and the roast beef.  Fries also delicious. Pro Tip: Order the cheesesteak with hot peppers. Address: Just off the strip, turn at the ugly ass gargoyles.

    찜질방 Jjimjilbangs: Don’t be scared

    August 19, 2015 /
Shows someone relaxing at a jjimjilbang with a sheet mask on.

Alright, to be clear, I’m addicted to jjimjilbangs/public baths.  Sometimes I wonder if I should just move into one and stop paying rent on my house.  It took me about nine months to get up the nerve to give one a try, and immediately felt like it was nine months of my life I had wasted. Maybe I’m weird, but I can’t see why anyone would say no to a 9,000 spa day. I encourage everyone to give it a try at least once. However, jjimjilbangs are very different from…
