About AK Plaza
AK Plaza is also a department store brand with about six other locations in South Korea. Including two near each other at Suwon Train Station and Pyeongtaek Train Station. You will want to double-check when anyone says, “It’s at AK Plaza,” and make sure you know which AK Plaza they are talking about.
Unspecific folks who don’t know the area may think you are being difficult for clarifying which AK Plaza to meet at, but ignore this. The one time you forget to clarify, your friend will be waiting at Suwan Station, and you are going to be at Pyeongtaek Station, and you will be kicking yourself.
About AK Plaza in Pyeongtaek
In Pyeongtaek-si, AK Plaza is the department store attached to Pyeongtaek Station, which is located in Pyeongtaek City. Pyeongtaek City is often referred to as just “Pyeongtaek”. However, it is important to remember that Pyeongtaek City and Pyeongtaek-si are two different but similar things. Like New York, New York in the United States.
To make this even more difficult, the administrative district of Pyeongtaek-si often mis translates Pyeongtaek-si as Pyeongtaek City when writing in English. For example, they make the Pyeongtaek City website for Pyeongtaek-si. It’s all very complicated trying to keep these little important details accurate in translation. It’s one of those things that makes a lot more sense in Korean than in English. Just know, you need to do a lot of clarification to know what folks are talking about.
Additionally, new arrivals in Pyeongtaek-si will often refer to Pyeongtaek City as “AK Plaza” because AK Plaza can be easily remembered and easily spelled. When such people say, “It’s at AK Plaza,” they may be referring to the department store itself or an area within 4-5 blocks of AK Plaza. Once again, when anyone tells you that you can find it near AK Plaza, you need to clarify EXACTLY what that means.
Exits from AK Plaza/Pyeongtaek Station:
- Exit 1 leads you out to the northeastern side of AK Plaza, where you can see buses and taxis. This is also the side where you can access the majority of Pyeongtaek City’s shopping, restaurants, and activities.
- Exit 2 leads you out to the southwestern side of AK Plaza, where you will find a taxi stand, apartments, and restaurants.
10 Things to Do for Kids, Families, and Couples Near AK Plaza
When we say “near AK Plaza,” we mean within 4-5 blocks of AK Plaza in the Pyeongtaek City and Tong Bok area. We do not simply mean what is to be done in the department store.
