About Anseong-si
Anseong-si (안성시) borders Pyeongtaek-si to the east. The administrative district contains a great deal of rural farmland and the small city of Anseong. For this blog post, I’m referring to Anseong-si as a whole and not simply the central city itself. This means that many of the locations may only be easily accessible by car.
Anseong-si offers many different relaxing rural experiences that connect you with the local culture and help you recover from the business of life. Perfect for those looking to destress and hit mung. There are many mountains, ponds, rivers, and farms to explore.
Tips for Rural Travel
Keep in mind that rural South Korean tourism and culture planning may not assume international foreigners will visit. This means there may be limited English in some more rural locations. Consider the small towns in your country. Generally, small communities don’t have the financial resources to create information in multiple languages and they focus on the needs of the immediate community. This remains true in rural South Korea.

Naver Maps provides superior routing in rural areas. Therefore, I do not recommend using WAZE, Google Maps, or Apple Maps. However, each person has their own preference for navigation apps based on their past experiences. Naver has an English language interface.

Jukjusanseong Fortress is a historic mountain stronghold north of Anseong, Gyeonggi-do, originally built by Goguryeo as a forward base against Baekje and Silla. Featuring triple-layered stone walls (inner, middle, outer), it played a vital role in repelling Mongol invasions in 1236 under General Song Mun-ju. The well-preserved site includes restored walls, water basins, and a shrine honoring the general. Open seasonally (10 AM–4 PM), nearby hiking trails offer lush views and cultural heritage. Additionally, Ms. Rivers-Woods founded the South of Seoul smart phone app available for Google Play and iPhone. The app provides information a resources for those living and traveling in South Korea.
When she isn’t in South of Seoul development meetings or working her day job, Ms. Rivers-Woods loves to be outside at skate parks, the beach, or playing in the mountains.
