Looking for a family day in Sejong’s Wonsunsan Eco Park? We spend a lot of time outdoors and we love visiting this spacious, kid-friendly park. Our adventure tally constantly includes green spaces that everyone in the family enjoys. Wonsusan Mountain Eco Park was a great find.

The boardwalk trails traverse through the park, over the marsh, flanked by native plants and trees. Signs flood the area with information about flora and fauna. In fact, we saw 4 species of birds and luckily no poisonous snakes but they are there, so be careful. Snakes become more active in the warmer months. Many more miles of trails continue through the forest and up Wonsu Mountain.

The highlight of the trip is the playground. Known to locals as the Bluebird Kids Forest Experience Garden, the site is hidden amongst the trees and offers an effortless outdoor education. My son played for 3 solid hours climbing up the caged structure and sliding down the two massive tower slides. I relived the 80s exploring a playground design I haven’t seen since my own childhood.

It begins with climbing bars, followed by an upright climbing tube, and then veers off left or right for more traversing. The journey ends as you slide at warp speed. Repeat, for hours.

The Naver link will take you to the parking lot. Follow the gravel road up to the clearing and you’ve reached Eco Park. Continue up the road just a bit, following the sounds of pure delight to find the playground. There is a bathroom up the trail and to your left, about a 5-minute walk from the playground.

There is no café or store on the grounds, so best to pack a lunch and drinks, or grab something in the town before you park.

The Area Called Sejong

Similar to Pyeongtaek, authors and speakers may use ‘Sejong’ to refer to either Sejong administrative district or Sejong City. When researching Sejong you may want to clarify if either the administrative district or the city exists as the reference point. For this blog article, I refer to the Sejong City as ‘Sejong’. However, some of the additional locations exist outside Sejong City in the wider administrative district.

The Wonsusan Eco Park is located in Sejong City. Marketing information states that Sejeong may become the Next Seoul according to marketing created for the area. Sejong City is located about 75 miles south of Seoul. The foundation of Sejeong occurred in 2007 with the intent to move government institutions there once construction is completed in 2030. For now, the city’s rapid growth can be felt with numerous restaurants, shops, and kids’ cafes to explore beyond the hiking trails.

Should I go to Sejong today?

Great questions. If you need to know more about the current air quality or the weather check the following information.

Current Air Quality and Weather in Sejong

Air quality and weather change throughout the day. However, having an idea of what the air quality is right now can help make decisions easier. You can download the Air Matters App for your phone to keep current on changing air quality conditions throughout the day. You can even set up alerts.

If you hover over the following Air Quality graphic you will be able to see a 3-day air quality estimate.

Remember that air quality changes around Korea. It may be poor quality in one area and excellent elsewhere. Checking air quality can be a great way to choose where to go, what activities to do when you get there, and when to be inside or outside. It also can help you decide if you should purchase and carry air filter masks for outdoor activities.
