What is Sosabeol?
Sosabeol is a neighborhood in Pyeongtaek where many folks love to hang out with friends or go on dates. The neighborhood has a great balance of restaurants, cafes, parks, and things to do for all ages. Many of Pyeongtaek’s younger crowd head to Sosabeol for date nights and afternoons with friends.

Cute cafes pepper the Sosabeol neighborhood. You can wander through the streets and discover numerous, lovely cafes where you can take a rest while grabbing a coffee and dessert. Some cafes focus on being Instagram ready, others focus on creating a unique product, and yet others balance both aesthetic and quality. For this blog post, I’ve chosen 10 cafes that prioritize flavor as well as environment since I’m a fan of both.

Unique door and setting (one sits in hexagon booths) lead one to cafe. The cafe offers custard filled fish bread, one of the best brownies in the neighborhood, and locally sourced honey drinks. The homemade ginger latte is also a MUST try for anyone who loves intense ginger.

This is a big old cozy corporate kind of coffee shop, but we like it. It has a fun interior and the owner was friendly and excited about being in Pyeongtaek. Its where we go when we are in more of a hurry and dont want to walk to one of the more tucked away location

Lanae Rivers-Woods moved to Korea in 2011 where she lives in the countryside with her family, friends, and puppies. She holds a BSSW (Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work), a MAIT (Master’s of Arts in International Teaching), and registered by the Pyeongtaek Korean Times with the Korean government as a Cultural Expert.
Ms. Rivers-Woods used her 15 years experience as a social architect, UX/UI designer, and technology consultant to found South of Seoul in 2015. South of Seoul is a volunteer organization that leverages technological tools to mitigate cultural dissonance in multi-cultural communities.
Through South of Seoul, Ms. Rivers-Woods works with independent volunteers, non-profit organizations, businesses, local & federal government, universities, and US military organizations to develop solutions to support English speaking international residents in rural South Korea.
Additionally, Ms. Rivers-Woods founded the South of Seoul smart phone app available for Google Play and iPhone. The app provides information a resources for those living and traveling in South Korea.
When she isn’t in South of Seoul development meetings or working her day job, Ms. Rivers-Woods loves to be outside at skate parks, the beach, or playing in the mountains.
