Where Fandom Meets Café Culture In South Korea, cafés are often more than just a place to grab coffee , they exist as a unique and focused cultural experience. From minimalist design havens to immersive themed spaces, Korean café culture is internationally known for its creativity and attention to detail. Some of the most popular are character cafés because they blend adorable aesthetics, pop culture, and delicious treats to create a one-of-a-kind experience. Types of Character Cafes Character cafés in Korea feature everything from beloved local mascots like Kakao Friends and Line Friends to global icons like Hello Kitty, Snoopy, and Pokémon. Peanuts, Winnie the Pooh, Disney, Sesame Street, and More Viva Salon has a fabulous mix of American cartoon characters from Peanuts, Winnie the Pooh, Disney, Sesame Street, and more. Since the area is small, you almost feel like you are in a doll house. Also, many of the items are available for purchase. So, get all your photos and purchases done, and then you’ll find drink creations of so many of your favorites to enjoy. Pinocchio and Friends Pinocchio can be found all over South Korea. If you are visiting La Petit France, you can find Pinnochio there as well. Pino & Kio Resort is next to Malipo Beach. Then, make sure to stop at the cafe and see Pinocchio nearby. Also, Pinocchio Village is a great lunch and or brunch stop. Snoopy and Friends While in Jeju, check out Snoopy Garden, a theme park-like attraction that includes a cafe. There are eleven zones in the outdoor garden which have classic Peanuts scenes. Additionally, there are five themed halls for you to check out. If you are a fan of Peanuts and Snoopy, spend some time enjoying the exhibits and then enjoy some time in the themed cafe there as well. Disney & Pixar If you are a Disney or Pixar fan, this cafe is for you. Smore Market Toy House is decorated in Toy Story memorabilia. Also, this cafe is a toy store, of course! In addition, there are plenty of fabulous spots to get some great Instagram posts shot or just photos. Spend some time grabbing your photos and merchandise, then enjoy some delicious coffee, tea and desserts. Harry Potter If you are a fan of Harry Potter, then do not miss out on these great cafes decorated with great collectibles and memorabilia. In addition, the themed drinks and treats will make you feel like you are in the wizarding world! Harry Potter fans, rejoice! As with many cafes in Korea, 943 King’s Cross Cafe also has a beer selection and they get really festive during holidays like Halloween and Christmas. As a popular destination cafe, they have amazing opportunities for fun photos as well. Also, there are many floors and each one has a theme. So, grab yourself a goodie there and enjoy immersing yourself in the world of wizardry. You can also visit Po Tid in Seoul. Hello Kitty and Sanrio Character Cafes Hello Kitty has increased with popularity since its creation in 1974. There were two Hello Kitty Cafes, one in Jeju and one in Seoul. However, the location in Seoul has closed. So, if you are planning a trip to Jeju, make sure to include this in your list! While you are in Jeju, Hello Kitty lovers will enjoy this theme-park with a cafe. Enjoy touring all of the amazing exhibits of Hello Kitty at the theme park. Then, take a break and partake of delicious coffees and desserts that are too cute to eat at the Hello Kitty Cafe. They may also enjoy visiting Hello Kitty Cafes in Seoul. Or maybe you would like to expand to see more of the Sanrio universe in Busan. Narnia Cafe Narnia, the location, decor, and theme are enough to make you feel transported to a magical realm. In addition, the owner speaks English, Korean, and German. However, the drinks and pizza are what dreams are made of. Thus, kids and Narnia fans will love the various displays around this large property. Little Prince With one of the largest collections of The Little Prince books, art, memorabilia on display, this beautiful 3-floor cafe is a must-see-destination for all Little Prince fans. There’s also a small golf putting area on the first floor and a walking trail along the side with lovely, white butterflies. Romeo & Juliet The interior is based on the city of Verona which is the background for Romeo & Juliet. (Think, Baz Luhrmann’s version and you won’t be disappointed.) However, you should make sure to check out the signature drinks, Romeo and Juliet. Sherlock Holmes Are you a fan of BBC’s Sherlock Holmes? Then, prepare yourself for lots of Benedict Cumberbatch at 221B. In short, this classy cafe is charming and includes production photos and lots of items relating to London. So, grab yourself a Sherlock coffee or Moriarty Smoothie and enjoy the atmosphere! Wizard of OZ If you are in Fairytale Village in Incheon, just follow the yellow brick road to Cafe Oz. Fans of the Wizard of Oz will enjoy all the photo opportunities. Just look for the large castle in Fairytale Village and enjoy. In addition, this cafe is a great stop for anime fans of One Piece. Anime Character Cafes Japanese anime and manga are also very popular, there are wonderful anime character cafes in Korea for you to enjoy the culture! Fans of Crayon Shin-Chan and other animes will love Pop Bubble in Yongsan I-Park Mall. This collaboration cafe has various characters and animations that change regularly. So, if you visit often you may find new anime characters while you enjoy your treats! With the exterior shaped like the ship from One Piece, Play One Piece is difficult to miss! One Piece, this popular anime, has inspired this cafe and many others with it’s fun themes. Fans definitely will want to check this out! Studio Ghibli and Totoro Character Cafes Totoro is another one of Korea’s favorites. If you are a fan of Totoro or Studio Ghibli, then you can find him in unlikely places, cafe windows, restaurant, and dangling on key chains. The cafes listed here have a few Totoro references. However, if you’re a big fan, definitely check out Studio Ghibli Dotoriseup and Studio Ghibli Acorn Forest. Studio Ghibli Cafes Halloween Themed Cafe Witches – If you love Halloween so much that you wish it could happen every day, then visit Manyeo Kitchen, Witchs Kitchen in Cheonan. It’s a unique experience and fully immersive, including the menu options. However, please note their parking lot is next door. Do not park in the private lot across the street unless you have a Korean credit card.
