There is something about traveling hundreds of miles to away from home that makes running smack dab into some comfort food in another country, simply magical.

What that special something is, depends on the person. Luckily the area outside of Camp Humphreys is becoming an international mecca of delights. Here are my favorite finds so far.

With the heat and the humidity turned up, the one thing I miss is our local ice cream shop back home. Sure, you can find a frozen popsicle at one of the numerous convenience stores. But when you are looking for a one of a kind, bring you to the next level, frozen delectable of creamy heaven, then you need Regina’s. When we first arrived here in Korea we sampled Regina’s brunch fare. There was a staffing issue and sadly they closed their doors for a while. I’m happy to say we stopped by the other day and discovered their doors are open again. This time they are focusing on making homemade organic ice cream, and WOW! The foodie in me loves the amazingness they are whipping up!

Regina’s doors are open for brunch from 11am to 2pm. Ice cream is served all day from 11am to 9pm, closed Mondays. Located one street before the 3/8 market in Anjeong-ri, you can find Regina’s near Loft 33.

Speaking of Loft 33, have I told you about their burgers? Yes. This cozy bar above Reginas is holding a secret that I am reluctant to tell you about. They make an amazingly juicy, full of flavor, mouthwatering hamburger. Sure you can get a decent burger just about anywhere, but when you want something that wasn’t flash frozen for mass production-you get your rear in gear and head to the Loft. Usually they are open from 4:30pm to 1am, daily. On Sundays you can head over a little earlier and get your grub on around noon. But head over a little later if you want to find a beer to go with it.

If you haven’t tried one of Ephphatha’s cheesesteaks, you are absolutely missing out. I originally checked them out on a whim. I figure if a sandwich places is willing to make their own bread then maybe that attention to detail will trickle over into other places. And I was right. There is a beautiful harmony of meat and cheese happening over here. Now whenever I’m looking for an easy and tasty win in the Ville, Ephphatha beckons me-and I find myself unable to resist. For me the Steak Hoagie with bacon, is the way to go. Not a steak person? Try their chicken steak sandwich instead. Can’t be bothered to walk all the way into the Ville for a bite? No worries. Ephphatha delivers!

Open Friday-Wednesday 11:30am-9pm, closed Thursday. Open an hour later Friday and Saturday nights.

Italy Pizza

Right across from Ephphatha’s is one of the best pizzas in the Anjeong-ri area, Italy Pizza. It’s a place I can take the whole family to sit down and order an authentic pie with. On top that, this place calls to me with its family friendly seating area and atmosphere. The only disappointment I have is if I am not careful the kids will devour the pizzas before I can grab a slice for myself. They are open 11am to 11pm daily. Which means if you’re working late and want to bring home dinner, Italy Pizza is there for you. And did I mention that they do more than just pizza?

The Big Bite

Sometimes finding a place to eat is a struggle. And so is finding a place to park your car. Luckily there is a restaurant in Anjeong-ri that has you covered. The Big Bite not only has nice parking spots to make it convenient for you, but it’s a great place to go when looking for a wide variety of western style food to please everyone at your table! Typically open from 11:30 am – 3:00/3:30 pm(Sat/Sun) for lunch and 4:30(Fri/Sat/Sun)/5:30 pm – 10 pm. Closed Mondays.

Smoke Town BBQ

Words cannot express the way a well done BBQ melts in your mouth. Luckily there is a place near Columbia Dental and Attractive Cafe that can give you a taste of home! Take a quick look at this video made for you!

Need to feed a big crowd? Ask Smoke Town to cater your next event or try ordering your food for pick up. Open Sunday – Thursday 11:30 am to 3 pm, 5-9 pm. Open an hour later on Friday and Saturday.
