We have found some unique and seasonal items in these restaurants and enjoy trying them when we are in the area. They also may follow their own unique schedule so call ahead to check if they are open if you are coming from far.

What if this isn’t the best Phad Thai I have ever had in my life? That means all the Thai food in Korea sucks right?
Actually, no it doesn’t. What it does mean is that the restaurant did not meet your expectations based on your lived experience. If you are someone who fell in love with Thai food in the United States, you will likely find this food different than you are used to. If you fell in love with Thai food in Thailand, you will likely find this food different than the food in Thailand. Since Thai food is delicious in all its forms, we recommend trying them all until you find the right one for you. Never give up the hunt! The search is 75% of the fun.
Additionally, the Thai culinary experience expands far beyond pad Thai. Other dishes at the restaurant might be the best you ever had. Make sure to try a few things on the menu as different restaurants will shine in different areas.
Why does the Thai food taste different than other Thai food I had in other places?
This might surprise you, but we live in rural South Korea. We don’t live in either the United States or Thailand. The ingredients in South Korea are sourced from different places which means flavor will vary. Additionally, the Thai people living in South Korea may have altered the flavors to meet their new lifestyle, and some dishes could have been changed to make them easier for Korean’s to eat. Just as immigrants to the United States deliciously ruined Italian, Chinese, Japanese, and Mexican cuisines – immigrants to Korea explore new ways of cooking their food from home. We need to allow them some grace to be unique.
Are all of these Pyeongtaek Thai restaurants the best most authentic Thai restaurants?
Who knows. We don’t blog to convince you to like what we like. South of Seoul shares information so that you know what options exist that you might like. All of us bloggers just love to say “the best, authentic” whatever because it shoots the blog post to the top of the list on Google in a minute. We’re just out here hustling to inspire folks to get out and enjoy the magic of life.
Our take on Thai food in Pyeongtaek
Do we really enjoy the Thai food in Pyeongtaek? We like a lot of it but not all of it. We prefer the Thai restaurants away from the US bases because they have more of the menu items we enjoy. We’ve never been huge restaurant pad Thai fans. We love mango salads and fried fish. When we miss the strip mall Thai food we used to eat in Seattle (which we loved) we head near the US bases and feel very much at home. All of the Thai Food in Pyeongtaek has value depending on your mood.

Update: This restaurant moved from a block away to a larger spot. The have menus is Korean and English. However, you may only see Thai folks here. This is strong, rich, deeply authentic Thai food for Thai expats living in the area.

One of the longest running Thai restaurants in the area. This can be a little hard to find as its tucked down a side street and on the second floor. The staff speak English and the menus are in English.
